Number one: The observer

This week a trilogy. You know, kids do love water so I took them some photos where water is easily accessible without any barrier: in Piazza Castello. The first is "The observer". He was in fact observing water pass through his hands closed around jet :-)

Questa settimana una trilogia. Come sapete i bambini amano l'acqua sicché ho preso loro qualche foto dove l'acqua è accessibile senza barriere: in Piazza Castello. La prima foto concerne "Il contemplatore". Stava infatti osservando l'acqua passare attraverso le sue mani chiuse attorno al getto :-)

Il Teatro e la Cultura

In Germany Angela Merkel is facing recession with a severe financial manoeuvring that in any case doesn't cut anything that concern Culture and School. Of course in Italy is happening just the opposite. The photo shows what masters of Torino Royal Opera Theatre wrote in the main entrance of the theatre. If you enlarge you can read that "Theatre it's not a gala dinner. Theatre is... Back pain, colors, history, night working, culture, temporary employment, passion, dust, movement, flexibility, danger, accidents and sensibility" but those poor morons at Governement for sure won't understand.

Naturalmente in Italia sta accadendo giusto l'opposto.

Yesterday was Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. I celebrated it on the top of Lingotto (see HERE an aerial view of it). The photo shows the Olympic Arch and mountains in the background at 8:06pm :-)

Chapel of Merchants is quite hidden. It's possible to get in from SS Martiri's Church in via Garibaldi, 25. Built in the end of 1600 (1692) by Bernardo Antonio Vittone and Filippo Castelli it's rich of decorations and paintings (mostly by Andrea Pozzo). It definitely deserves a visit.

Po overflowed at Murazzi. I will take the same photo at same position so you will have an idea on how it looks like night life there without water.

Po in piena

River Po is overflowing in Torino. Since yesterday it's raining too much. Tonight, when I took this photo at "Vittorio Emanuele I"'s bridge the water was quite near (as you can see) to the top of the arcades. We hope it will stop to rain.

Yesss Torino is on the list of 70 cities of 20 countries affiliated to the World Naked Bike Ride event. So, last June the 12th they cycled in the city and the photo... proves it. Or not ? :-)

School's Finished !

In Torino it's tradition that the last day of school students go in Piazza Castello to take a bath into small fountains. I envy them and I love their happiness !

Today, June the 2nd is the Republic Day. In 1946 after an universal suffrage in which Italian people were called to decide -after fascism- if go back to Monarchy (again) or to chose Republic, they voted the second. Lot of us, nowadays, are afraid that this country isn't anymore the Republic our ancestors voted for, but more likely a Banana Republic. --- [the photo has been taken in Torino at Olympic Stadium at Opening Ceremony of Paralympic Winter Games 2006]
