Memorial Day

Yesterday (25th of May, the last Monday of May) the United States celebrated the Memorial Day. Memorial Day it is the day that America chose to honour and celebrate the sacrifice of those American soldiers deads fighting in any war. Yes, "any war" include who died fighting hijackers or, lately, in Iraq... Someone could think that this doesn't match too much with this photo blog, Torino or Italian culture and traditions. It isn't rue. Americans soldiers died in Italy during World War II for our freedom and we should remember them. So this is my personal tribute. God bless them. --- [This is a photo I took in USA last January]

Fabrizio, Thank you for your thoughtful post, acknowledging our war dead, and the tribute. It pains me to know that for far too long, many countries, including yours, have had to bury their young men, women, and civilians because of war time conflicts. I know it's too much to ask for a cessation of violence and wars, but I wish with all my heart that it could be true.

A beautiful memorial Fabrizio. My grandfather was stationed in Italy during the war. He was a pilot. I'll have to see where exactly.

We are so grateful for the friendship extended to us as individuals and as a nation by the generous hearts of the Italian people. Thank you Fabrizio. My father and uncle and father in law all survived their war experiences in Europe and spoke fondly of Italy and the people they met there. I still have a shell cameo my dad bought for my mother in Naples. Some day I hope to visit your beautiful country, too.

Your post means a lot to us "Yanks." My wife, whose father was in the U.S. Fifth Army, was in Italy throughout the war. My father and grandfather both served in WWII and my dad, a bomber pilot, was staioned in England and France. I cannot imagine your country during the war; it is so magnificent and beautiful to visit. We love being your guests. But I'm grateful for your kind words of remembrance. Visit Tampa Daily Photo for my tribute on our Memorial Day.
