Time to leave

Summer is here so it's time to leave. I took this photo yesterday at the railways station. Those girls and guys were checking the timetable maybe planning an holiday with InterRail.

40 C = 104 F

Yesterday was the hottest day of this Summer until now. 40 Celsius degree (= 104 Fahrenheit) shows that street thermometer. Fortunately humidity was 55% so we had just an hot and sunny Summer day.

This is the night scene of Piazza San Carlo. You can notice at left the twin churches: Santa Cristina (left) and San Carlo (right). More to come...

Segue...

San Giovanni Patrono di Torino

Today is the the patron saint of Torino: San Giovanni Battista on 24th of June. Tradition is to make a great bonfire in Piazza Castello in front of Royal Palace. To have twelve months of luck for the city the top of the bonfire must fall down to the opposite side (the mine side) . There was thousands of people and none really believe to very old beliefs but, funny, who didn't see where the top fell asked to others: "Uhm, ehm did you see to which side it fell?". [BTW it fell to the prosperous side ! ]

Caffé San Carlo 2

Torino it's quite popular for its historical cafe. I show again the wonderful Caffé San Carlo (in San Carlo Square) and those delicious appetizers you may find (and taste) at aperitivo's time

Skyscrapers in Torino

This building realized between 1933 and 1934 (during fascism) has been taken from its best (!) side. The other side is the skyscraper (torre littoria) you can see at left. I don't like it all as I don't like skyscrapers in Torino.

Summer?

Just few days to the first day of Summer (21st of June) and we still have cold and wet. By the way I am sure we'll have hot days like each year. In this photo at Giardini Cavour a mom with her kid.

Last first of April I showed HERE same fountain taken in Winter. It's called "Fountain of 12 months" because there is a statue of each month of the year all around the basin. It has been built in 1898 by an artist call Carlo Ceppi. It's also known as "la Fontana del Ceppi".

A piece of life

When Summer begin (even if this year seems to begin a bit later than usual) people love to go at Quadrilatero Romano. Cafes, restaurants, bar, galleries... To promenade along narrows historical streets or to have dinner or simply to sit there for having a drink it's a good way to live Summer in Torino.

Palazzo Reale

This is the main entrance of Royal Palace in Torino. I took may time this building -click HERE- that its front has been designed by Amedeo di Castellamonte at the end of 1600 but never in daylight with rain. If you enlarge it you may observe some detail.

Maetto for President

He is Maetto, from "Mao" (his real name) also because in Italian "mao" is what cats say. Considered is still raining, to spend the weekend being cuddled by Maetto is the most nice thing may happen :-) --- Happy weekend to everyone !

Padlocked Love

In 2006 couples started in Rome at Ponte Milvio to padlock their love at lamppost (also because it was seen in a movie). Of course, now, it's popular everywhere and each lamppost by a bridge is a good place to promise each other eternal love.

Still rain

After flood and landslip around Torino, after Po river overflowed it is still raining and forecast don't promise nothing of good. I love rain but not flood and too much it's really too much. Is there anything we may dance around fire?

Theme Day : My corner local shop

The first corner local shop I thought was a bit different as probably Jilly of Menton DP will remember. Then I thought that my really preferred local shop (located not exaaaaactly in a corner) is Eataly where you find everything and more.

174 City Daily Photo blogs participate in the June them day. See what a little shop around the corner looks like in Singapore, London, San Diego, Accra... Click here to view thumbnails for all participants or visit each blog individually:
