Thank you Obama !

President of United States said that Fiat is a car company "where the current management team has executed an impressive turnaround." He also said that Fiat is prepared to transfer "cutting-edge technology to Chrysler and, after working closely with my team, has committed to building new fuel-efficient cars and engines here in America." (Autonews.com) --- Fiat 500 is one of cars that Fiat plan to sell in USA. FIAT means: Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino.

Interesting quote from President Obama. I doubt that President Bush would ever have complimented FIAT or any other European car maker.

It will take a change in culture for Americans to choose the small cars that Europeans drive instead of so many Americans driving SUVs and trucks. It is happening, but Americans have continued to buy the big cars for more than 30 years despite the need for more fuel efficient vehicles.

An additional problem is that right now few Americans are buying any type of car, which is devastating to the US auto industry.

I really don't have much interest in cars as a rule (a box on wheels), but I LOVE these wee Fiats! Only trouble is, you can't fit a harp in, which is the number 1 criterion for any car we buy.

In Australia Japanese cars are the biggest sellers (we've just bought a new Subaru), but I'd love to have a Smart car, or Fiat 500 as a city runabout. My favourite is the Citroen Pluriel, but it's out of my price range! Australians are also too fond of big cars, especially husge, wasteful SUV/4WDs.

If they build it, will they buy it. I drive a Mini and love it. Most of my friends wouldn't go near it. Have this love affair with the big cars.

I have to say I was pleased and impressed with the Fiat I drove last time I was in Italy. A well made and nicely performing comfortable and capable auto.

I'd love to drive one in town, but I'd feel naked in it on the Los Angeles freeways!

I drove a Cinquecento Nuova recently (behind the wheel). It's not that small at all, especially on the inside. Very comfortable and it handles very well. And it runs 20 km to the liter on average, incredible. I have a red toy model of it, just like in the picture. You can be proud to be from Torino, Fabrizio!

That car is super cute! I think it is perfect for New York!!
