Well, to solve all doubts I can say it was a "good bye" kiss. BTW she wasn't leave for going to die fighting for one's country. I can assure she was just catching a tramway after school for going back at home :-)
Hilda, under my point of view this is bad but how we can judge habit and costume of another country?
