The Italy's Unification

Yes, Chrissy, was the first to guess it: a manhole cover celebrating the 150th Anniversary about Italy's Unification. Jilly appreciated the Italian style. Sonia, that I met at Torino Incontra, lives in Torino (so she had way to notice it). Dina centered the point in fact I accurately avoided to step on it. Rambling Round is right (and it's what I thought when I noticed it). Well Julie, Torino and I thank you about the compliment - this Manhole is in front of Palazzo Carignano.

Sometime I honestly must admit I love these kind of frames that I capture walking around in Torino. This photo has been taken in via Po in a shining sunny day last May.

Qualche volta devo onestamente confessare che amo questo genere di scorci che catturo camminando per Torino. questa foto è stata scattata in un radioso pomeriggio dello scorso Maggio.

Parco Dora at Night

The photo is just a detail of the new Parco Dora in Torino. As said, it has been realized by the German achitect Peter Latz (site) in this new post-industrial design.

La foto mostra un dettaglio del nuovo Parco Dora in Torino. Come già detto è stato realizzato dall'architetto tedesco Peter Latz (sito) in chiave post industriale.

Mausoleo della Bela Rosin

First of all Torino Daily Photo is back :-) --- So today I'm going to introduce to the Bela Rosin Mausoleum. "Bela Rosin" is literally: "Beautiful Little Rosa" and it's not Italian but Piedmontese dialect. It's a copy (eighth-scale) of the Pantheon (Rome) and it was built by the sons of Rosa Vercellana (called Bela Rosin - see Wikipedia in English Here) that was lovers and wife of the first King of Italy: Vittorio Emanuele II.

Prima di tutto Torino Daily Photo e con lui chi scrive, ha terminato le sue corte vacanze. La foto di oggi concerne il Mausoleo della Bella Rosin (Piemontese, pronuncia: Bela Rusin - "u" di "uva") = Bella Rosina. Venne fatto costruire in copia al Pantheon (pare in scala 1:8) dai figli di Rosa Vercellana (cfr. Wikipedia Qui) che fu amante e moglie morganatica (di condizione sociale inferiore) del primo Re d'Italia: Vittorio Emanuele II.

Parco Dora

Torino Parco Dora. This photo is the first of a new set concerning this new Park called Dora because it's beside the river Dora. The project is by the architect Peter Latz (site) that worked on the transformation of former industrial land into a park (not yet completed). The result can be controversial but I personally love it.

Torino Parco Dora. La foto è la prima di una nuova serie di immagini che concernono il nuovo Parco Dora (prende il nome dal fiume Dora che gli scorre accanto). E' stato disegnato dall'architetto Peter Latz (sito) che ha appunto lavorato sulla trasformazione di un terreno precedentemente industriale in un parco (non ancora terminato). Il risultato può essere controverso ma a me piace molto.

Chiusa la LIS

Si è chiusa ieri la LIS - Libreria Internazionale de La Stampa (oggi Libreria Mondadori) in via Roma 80 a Torino. Per i torinesi tuttavia è sempre stata la Libreria de La Stampa. Da ragazzo andavo a sfogliare di straforo i giornali stranieri provando l'ebbrezza di essere un po' all'estero. So che oggi ciò muove quasi un sorriso di commiserazione ma per noi ragazzi cresciuti senza Internet, era già molto. Gli ultimi anni ha fatto bella mostra -al numero 82- il manifesto che QUI si vede in grandezza tale da poter essere letto. Raffigura Norberto Bobbio e la citazione è tratta da "Politica e Cultura" (1955): ""Il compito degli uomini di cultura è più che mai oggi quello di seminare dei dubbi, non già di raccogliere certezze""... Io sono un estimatore di Apple ma che al posto della Libreria de La Stampa e del manifesto di Bobbio venga aperto un Apple Store, no, non provoca in me alcun entusiasmo. Anzi.

I am sorry if today the first and main caption is in Italian but yesterday definitely closed an old Library in Torino, via Roma 80. When I was a boy I loved to go there for reading foreign newspaper and magazines. The poster in the photo is detailed and translated HERE. They will open an Apple Store but this time, even being an Apple addict, I am not happy. At all.

The Church of Santo Volto in Torino (link) has been realized by Mario Botta (Wikipedia) between 2004 and 2006. Mario Botta designed also in 1995: SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art - link) beside many other works all around the world. I hope to will be able to take some photo inside too. - All links are in English -

La Chiesa del Santo Volto a Torino (Wikipedia link) è stata disegnata dall'architetto Mario Botta (Wikipedia) tra il 2004 e il 2006. Mario Botta ha tra il resto realizzato nel 1995 il Museo di Arte Moderna di San Francisco - SFMOMA (link) accanto a numerose altre opere nel resto del mondo.
